Thanks to Aco and Princess, I get to do this open-a-bit-of-myself-to-the-world activity. I had better get it done with now before someone else does it and I'm told I need to do more! So here goes...

I've been taking pictures since forever. I met a friend I hadn't seen in close to 12 years about a month ago, and when he saw me with my camera, his first words were, you have always been taking pictures! I seem to have gotten that from my father, who my mother says was attached to his camera back in the day.

I have operation scars on both my wrists at the exact same spot due to fractures. Both fractures happened within two years of each other. The first one happened December 31st 1989. I'll never forget that one since I ushered in a new decade in a hospital theatre! The second one happened in June of 1991. Can't remember the exact date though!

I LOVE all things Tolkien. Lord of the Rings shares honours with Alexander Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo as my two all time favourite novels. I love that Tolkien was able to create such a vast world out of his love for languages. I love the richness of cultures he came up with, the different peoples, their histories... I have read most of the books in the History of Middle Earth series. That's including The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is required reading if you want to have a deeper appreciation for the Lord of the Rings. It's a very difficult read, but very very worth it. In it he condenses most of the material expounded on in the History of Middle Earth books. As for how much of a fan of his I am, if you want to know what the G and M in EGM stand for, watch any of the extended edition dvds to the very end. And by that I mean including all the credits. I know, I need to get a life!

Given a choice between Las Vegas, Paris, Tokyo, London on one hand and Yosemite National Park, The Himalayas, The Amazon and the Victoria Falls on the other, I'd go for the latter in a jiffy! I feel more alive and at ease in nature and natural surroundings. I once went on a trip to see the Niagara Falls, and my expectations of a rustic area were dashed to the rocks at the base of the falls when I instead found Disneyworld!

It took me the longest time to learn how to whistle. My siblings picked it up from way back, and I was frustrated that I was the only one that couldn't do it. And when I finally did, I started whistling from the side of the mouth, instead of the normal way forming an 'O' shape with the lips. I can do that, but I find it much easier whistling from the side.

I cannot watch a horror movie. I refuse to watch a horror movie. Completely. My overactive immagination would make sure I was hounded by it for a very long time! The few times I have gone against this and watched one have mostly been in the company of others doing so. And all times I say that it can't be that bad. It's usually never bad while watching. It's what happens long afterwards that affects me seriously. And so now if I find it playing, I'd rather go sit outside in the dark cold than subject myself to that.

I am a very adventurous eater. Infact I was working on a post about this very thing, but since this is here, I might as well mention it. My motto is, so long as it is not homo sapien, if an animal is eaten by a group of people somewhere, I will try it out before I knock it. If I like it, I'll eat it again. And again. And again. If I don't, nothing on this earth will make me take a second bite. My favourite dish that grosses most people currently is Steak Tartare. I'll have to update that should I come across something that's more gross in the eyes of most.
There ya go!

He! Ati now you've thrown down the gauntlet! Well then, I guess I better start thinning down my top ten "little known facts about.." to the requisite 7!
Me again. Ditto on the horror movies- my imagination is too much. Re: Tolkien, I love his books because it's before 'technology' so it's more magical- no light sabres, but just as much 'action'. Have you read any of the 'Avalon' books? Marion Zimmer Bradley is another author of similar books- the Avalon books are about the Druids etc...really good...you should check them out. I feel you on adventures in dining...I have to try it once before I dismiss it. So I've done my list up, you can go see it at mine.
I cannot do horror movies either for exactly the same reasons as you.
As for your adventurous appetite, I am addicted to the ostrich meatballs at Carnivore..check them out if you haven't already!!
I have to get hold of those other Tolkien books, it has been sometime since I had a literary challenge like that!
Nice self exposure!
Yep, LOTR. No need to expound.
I do not do horror movies as well - and I do not understand how someone can get excited about sitting through all that gore!!
And lastly - I can vouch for your eating. You should have stated, "I am an amorous and avid eater"...LOL!
PS: Ati you whistly from the SIDE?
Finally we get to peek an inch deeper into your life...
You are a good photographer. I too can't stand horror movies!
Funny that you should tag me when day in day out, all I write about is me! What more can i reveal? will give it a shot..
I read LOTR for almost 6 months and by the end of it, I still could not remember what the story was about except that there was a ring to be taken somewhere!
Ati you took how long to learn how to whistle?!? he he he could do it in class one, even that one of kanges!
the whistling to the side was too funny!you must have been an interesting child!2 fractures!should i even ask!i wouldnt have picked you for a no-horor-going type of guy.any horror, ama the serious ones..thrillers?tolkien...hmmm. i love count of monte christo.oh mehn, now to look for seven things to reveal!
p.s. theres nothing wrong if a few of us know what you look like...weka unlimited access for like half an hour or so,bomseh style;)
Unlike you can repeat horror anytime. I think the next time for a meet up we will stage a whistling competition. The side one do you roll your tongue as you do it?
Wambui
Tis true about Tolkien. Absolutely no whiz bang involved. Just good, very captivating story telling. I've seen the Avalon books, but never read them. Looks like I'll have to add them to my library.
That was quick! Just been at your casa...
Princess
Been there done that! I couldn't get enough of those! I wanted to just order the whole lot and go enjoy them for years at my own pace.
Aco
Do get them. They make for interesting reading. And give you many Aha! moments about Lord of the Rings.
Mama Boi
Haha, now you are unleashing even more secrets about me?
Yup, that I do. And the left side at that. I hit higher notes that way. But for lower notes, I have to revert to the kawaida mode.
Mwari
You know, I had that exact same thought after I done tagged you. But you did come through, so it worked it out in the end :)
HnH
Haha, I guess it's not for everyone. The first time I read it it took me about a month to go through it. Mostly because of the first part which took forever to finish. Then I read the Silmarillion (if you think LOTR is a tough read, then try the S. In the scale of difficulty, the Hobbit is early primary level reading. LOTR is secondary school level reading. S is PhD level reading. Yup, very dense!). After slogging through S, I went back to LOTR and literally flew through the book. That's because many of the things there now made so much more sense after reading extensively about them in S. I even enjoyed all the songs and poems which I was tempted to gloss over in my first reading, since I now had a context to place them in.
As for whistling, some are very late bloomers!
Mama shady
Ask away... details can be forthcoming if needed :)
Ah, me and horror are just immiscible. The ones that give me most problems are the insinuating ones. Where you really don't see what it is that's causing chaos, but you just feel it. KEEP AWAY!!! And as for the slasher types, I just can't stand gore. I hate it. I don't have as many problems afterwards with those, but I just don't like watching them, so I keep off. Ati kina Saw? Sahau!
Haha... Maybe someday when I feel kidogo generous I'll do a brief unleash...
Nakeel
Ha, I guess I'll have to remind myself to whistle kawaida then! Hmm... I guess I'll have to ask someone to observe that next time I'm whistling. Yaani after posting this and reading the comments I have been whistling non-stop!
what wrong with horror movies..? Stephen King is the best writer ever... nway thats me, i like wierd things...!
& egm, i swing it only one way!!! straight like a flag post! no need to get scared!
U hate horro movies! I love horror movies...Now what criteria did u use 2 tag me....hehee.
I want 2 remain anonymous....will c what i cn come up with.
I insists you are my incarnate male...I can relate to all but the wrist and horror movies. Absolutely LOVE em!!!
nice list
Agree with you on horror movies..why do people watch them again?
Your appetite and mine dont agree one bit!
Wacha horror movies...... Even thrillers sometimes I cant watch.
The opening sequence in LOTR where the dudes are riding those horses looking all types of ugly was enough for me to know I would NOT be watching this.... I love my sleep too much!
Remember Krull.. that movie for tene. I watched it on KTN and I could NOT sleep... for like 2 nights.
Its that serious
You caught me unawares since this week I was planning to take a break from blogging and enjoy victory.
I agree with you on LOTR as you already know. I love horror movies since Stephen King is my favorite writer. I am also an adventerous eater only to the extent of exotic fare not raw so steak tartare and sushi are not on my menu.
Let me see what I can come up with
Mbica zako ni noma - I have to give those props.
Diet - i am also extremely carnivorous - i mean i love vegetables soo much i wouldn't want to harm 'em ...
Lord of The Rings ... is "War of Souls" ... sijui Dragon Lance in that category, I have read and very much enjoyed those books ... but was too lazy to pursue others ... i have 2 admit I feel the adrenalin rushes as they set up those battle scenes, etc ...
I prefer horror movies to comedies ... guess i have a dark side!!
And is Kirima a member?
Inexes
Karibu kwangu! The effect they have on my hyper-active imagination, that's what's wrong with them. I can't even read Stephen King's horror writings. I once looked at a few pages of It, and let's just say it took a long time for me not to sleep with the lights on. That's how bad I am. And so I just keep off, for my sanity.
I am now reassured and can walk easy!
Unyc
I just did eeni meeni miny mo...
Q
Aha! No wonder I'm that Chief Fly on your Wall, eh? :)
Farmgal
Basi si I'll just eat all the stuff you don't want when we go to some exotic restaurant, ama?
MB
Aiee, okay, yours is on another level! While I must say some scenes in LOTR spooked me, they didn't spook me enough to cause me to lose sleep. I do have a higher threshhold for thrillers than for horrors.
Kirima
While I don't mind sushi, I won't go out of my way to eat it. As for steak tartare, there's actually only one restaurant where I'll eat it. And it's in New York city. so at most I'll have it twice a year when I go down there for a visit. Ethiopian restaurants serve it (they call it Kitfo), but I choose to have them make mine medium-rare.
Mwangi
We are one there! I say we start the PETPBEA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Plants But Eat Animals!
Not familiar with War of Souls. I'll check it out and let you know.
And where is my comment? Must have been chewed...hmmm...now with all this being revealed...hehehhe...i also cannot do horrors for the reason that i know the techniques and would not scare me at all...but lost sijui how they did it...scared me kidogo...
Horror Movies are a no no 4 me! I dont like they way they keep me awake after that..
What's the probability of fracturing your wrists in the same spot?
Count of Monte Cristo is a longtime fave of mine too! I haven't read Tolkien. And I don't watch horror movies either. As for the adventurous eating, I admire your guts.
Aegeus
Ulikuwa umeacha comment? I never saw one from you, so I guess chewed it was.
For me, even if the director was seated right next to me showing a how-we-made-it documentary as the main movie was playing, the after effects would still haunt me for sometime. For me it's not a matter of knowing how the effects were done, but rather the whole notion of the insinuation of evil that gets to me. And so I just keep off them kabisa.
Klara
I see we are legion that don't like horrors!
GND
Ha, that's a mathematical oddity for sure!
So when are you joining me for some good eating times? :)
Tagged eh? The thing is I'm hardly getting any breathing room from work ATM but once that situation is sorted out...
69MB
No wonder the silence! Haya, jipange basi, and when done, throw in your saba.
sasa hiyo ni hesabu gani msee,
i'm with you on canta clause...maa nature, anytime.
now what in heavens name is steak ta...nani huyo? tartare? do we need tartar control when eating it.
over inactive mind here too...eish naonanga vitu mob kwa mind...jeez.
it's been a while too.
Modoathii
The language those numbers are in is called Quenya. One of Tolkien's inventions. No you see my fascination with all things Tolkien?
Nature does rock, innit?
Hiyo ni nyama ya ng'ombe (sana sana) iliysagwa na kuwekwa spices mob and then served. Yup, no cooking. Just raw beef, straight up.
I kumbuka your post on watching movies through your fingers...
Ok so when I was like 5 I watched my first horror movie (Omen) and I couldn't sleep for like 2 days, after that i was all about horror movies, I realized they were just movies and for the most part they were to me very funny... so I still watch them but they do nothing for me coz I'm like hmmm how many times did they have to do that scene...
I also like the Tolkien but I think I lean more towards the movies lol.. and Count of Monte Cristo is MY FAVORITE story ever....
Now after reading about you, I want to go change mine lol.. mine seems so eehh basic...oh well
Freespirit
Yours were fine! Believe me, after reading a whole bunch of other people's lists I felt like coming back and editing mine. But I figured I'd just comment on their blogs where I saw similarities and leave it at that.
Like I told Aegeus, for me it doesn't matter that I know how they did it or how many times they had to do a scene. It's the whole premise of it that gets to me.
there are two things I cannot watch Lord of The Rings and all the fantasy stuff and horrors....I watched Count Dracula when I was a kid and I am freaked out to date..
Dorothy
Tis been a while! All psyched up for Blinden Kuh?
I guess I must have a higher threshold then of "scary" movies than I thought. I'll admit, once or twice I did get spooked by the whole Wringwraithes thing, but after a while got used to it. Maybe my love for the Lord of the Rings made me overcome any fear I had!
